Similar in size to earlier ZS/TZ-series cameras, Panasonic however has managed to squeeze a much larger sensor into the ZS100 (TZ100 outside the US). This enables the pixels to be about 2.4x bigger than they are in models like the Lumix ZS70 / TZ90, and this helps the ZS100 produce much higher quality images. The zoom lens isn’t quite so extensive though, but you still get an electronic viewfinder that makes it easier to compose images in bright sunny conditions and in addition to 4K video recording, there’s Panasonic’s 4K Photo mode to help capture 8MP images of fleeting moments. There are also premium bridge models with larger 1-inch sensors and shorter zooms. They still have a considerable size advantage over SLRs with comparable zooms—just think about carryin an interchangebale lens camera and two or three lenses to cover a 24-200mm, 24-400mm, or 24-600mm coverage range. They tend to be more expensive than an SLR, and certainly more than bridge models with smaller sensors, but do better at higher ISO settings and sport lenses that gather more light. If you put a premium on a lightweight camera, and want the versatility that a long zoom design delivers, look at a bridge model with a 1-inch sensor. Just be prepared to pay a premium.
Conversely, a shorter lens, or a smaller aperture, will result in more of the image being in focus. This is generally more desirable when photographing landscapes or groups of people. With very small apertures, such as pinholes, a wide range of distance can be brought into focus, but sharpness is severely degraded by diffraction with such small apertures. Generally, the highest degree of “sharpness” is achieved at an aperture near the middle of a lens’s range (for example, f/8 for a lens with available apertures of f/2.8 to f/16). However, as lens technology improves, lenses are becoming capable of making increasingly sharp images at wider apertures.
Look inside any professional photographer’s bag and there is a really good chance that you will see a Canon 5D Mark III. This camera is the workhorse of the photography world and one of the best on the market. Beginners will appreciate the 5D Mark III’s low-light performance, higher burst rate (6 FPS) and fast and accurate autofocus. This is simply one of the best cameras you can buy and, while it will take some learning for a true beginner, with this camera the sky is the limit. This camera was released in 2013 and has been upstaged by the recently-released 5D Mark IV. Regardless of its age, this camera has stood the test of time and has a worthy place in any photographer’s bag.
Step back a decade and there was no comparison at all between the rough and clunky snapshot cameras on cellphones and even the most mediocre compact digital cameras. While the digitals were boasting ever-increasing numbers of megapixels, cellphones took crude snaps little better than the ones you could get from a basic webcam (1 megapixel or less was common). Now all that’s changed. The Canon Ixus/Powershot digital camera I use routinely is rated at 7.1 megapixels, which is perfectly fine for almost anything I ever want to do. My new LG smartphone comes in at 13 megapixels, which (theoretically, at least) sounds like it must be twice as good.

There’s some really annoying time info in the lower left corner of the AVCHD screens if I play them on my Popcorn Hour C200. It isn’t visible if you play on your computer using for example Windows Media Player. The Popcorn Hour forum says that this is not because of the Popcorn Hour.

You can also buy a new 35mm or medium format camera. You don’t have as many options for getting film developed as you used to—if you’re in a major city it’ll be easy to find a lab, but you may have to resort to mail order if you’re not close to a metropolis. You can find old film SLRs and compacts in thrift shops and online stores pretty easily. If you’re intent on buying a new model, Lomography still makes a bunch of different ones, from toy models like the Sprocket Rocket, which captures panoramic shots with exposed sprockets, to premium options like the medium format LC-A 120.
I’ve got canon EOS 70D bundled with Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens as it is the best one in this price range for auto focus feature especially that I will always be indoors, beside if you exceeded the recording duration limit it will stop recording and start recording a new one till your memory card getting full, and of course it will be helpful for ransom request videos… or maybe masturbation ?

I don’t know if all modern camcorders work this way in terms of charging and USB but I think its super convenient! Hopefully when USB 3 type C comes out, we can ditch the barrel plug connector too and everything will be standard cables and power supplies.
If you’ve ever looked at a television screen close up, you will have noticed that the picture is made up of millions of tiny colored dots or squares called pixels. Laptop LCD computer screens also make up their images using pixels, although they are often much too small to see. In a television or computer screen, electronic equipment switches all these colored pixels on and off very quickly. Light from the screen travels out to your eyes and your brain is fooled into see a large, moving picture.
Digital cameras come in a wide range of sizes, prices and capabilities. In addition to general purpose digital cameras, specialized cameras including multispectral imaging equipment and astrographs are used for scientific, military, medical and other special purposes.

excellent article, thank you! — as i was researching what modem to buy to replace the TW supplied arris DG860A modem/router & learned that most modems are not also routers—–however, i already have an apple extreme A1354 4th gen — & am going to get the sb1461 via amazon —- DESPITE TW’s local (Paris KY) warning that they won’t support any issues i have in setting up a 3rd party modem…. AM I LIKELY TO HAVE AN ISSUE?
Meanwhile, it looks like the Panasonic V750 has spiked in price, marking it as more expensive than the V770, which is an all but identical newer model. In which case, I’d say go with the cheaper of the two.

Another reason to go for the big sensor is to minimize image noise. A 24MP DSLR has much larger pixels than a point-and-shoot of the same resolution. Costing a bit more than the Nikon D3400, but offering quite a bit more in the way of features, the Canon EOS Rebel T7i (known as the EOS 800D outside the US) is a great entry-level DSLR. The new sensor impresses, as does the 45-point autofocus system backed up by excellent live view AF, while the newly designed graphical interface will certainly make this camera even more appealing to new users. The absence of 4K video and the quality of the exterior materials disappoint, but this aside, if you’re looking for a well-rounded and easy to use camera for your first DSLR the EOS Rebel T7i / EOS 800D is certainly a very good bet. 
I got frustrated after trying to turn things off in the settings of the V770 without any results. I decided to reboot the Popcorn Hour. And all of a sudden it was able to play the 1080/50p and 1080/28p MP4’s! There is about a second of freezing before it plays, but after that it plays smoothly.

hi l have a panasonic HDC-SD80 at moment which ive loved but is now playing up. I mainly record my sons. one plays football while the other surfs, therefore l require something that is good with fast movements and long zoom at least 40 plus. I find that while the one l have did the job it failed to recognize my sons facial expressions while riding surf or playing footy which l would love to have with this new one, can you suggest which one would suit my needs best thanks, regards Julie
Traditional SLRs struggle when it comes to video autofocus. Contrast-based methods require that the focus point move just beyond the point of crisp focus and come back to it in order to lock on, which can be distracting when refocusing to follow a moving subject. SLR makers have worked to improve this, utilizing lenses with Pulse or Stepping Motors, which are are quieter and smoother during focus, but they’re still not on the same level as most mirrorless cameras.
The V770 and V750 are essentially identical, and we’re in the midst of updating the piece to reflect that. So go for whichever one is cheaper. And unfortunately, I wouldn’t expect anything impressive and new around this price point within the next three months.
Currently have a Panasonic TM900 for my low-light video needs. Use it primarily when I go to concerts and want to record the whole concert straight through. Connect it to the external recorder, which I mount on the camcorder itself. The whole contraption is on a monopod, which I hold up. I get quite a good workout haha
At this moment I am filming and photographing with an Olympus SH-25MR. I bought it only because it can film and take pictures simultaneously. The quality is not very good but it’s the only photo camera that is able to do that.
“Best” and “for beginners” is usually an oxymoron — and that’s especially true when it comes to high-tech gadgets like cameras. A camera loaded with all the features won’t be much good in the hands of someone who doesn’t know how to use it. There can be a steep learning curve when it comes to photography!

Image capture is only part of the image forming process. Regardless of material, some process must be employed to render the latent image captured by the camera into a viewable image. With slide film, the developed film is just mounted for projection. Print film requires the developed film negative to be printed onto photographic paper or transparency. Prior to the advent of laser jet and inkjet printers, celluloid photographic negative images had to be mounted in an enlarger which projected the image onto a sheet of light-sensitive paper for a certain length of time (usually measured in seconds or fractions of a second). This sheet then was soaked in a chemical bath of developer (to bring out the image) followed immediately by a stop bath (to neutralize the progression of development and prevent the image from changing further once exposed to normal light). After this, the paper was hung until dry enough to safely handle. This post-production process allowed the photographer to further manipulate the final image beyond what had already been captured on the negative, adjusting the length of time the image was projected by the enlarger and the duration of both chemical baths to change the image’s intensity, darkness, clarity, etc. This process is still employed by both amateur and professional photographers, but the advent of digital imagery means that the vast majority of modern photographic work is captured digitally and rendered via printing processes that are no longer dependent on chemical reactions to light. Such digital images may be uploaded to an image server (e.g., a photo-sharing website), viewed on a television, or transferred to a computer or digital photo frame. Every type can then be produced as a hard copy on regular paper or photographic paper via a printer.
How rugged are these? Could the Canon work for a smart 7 year old who wants “to make movies?” The kids camcorders I have looked at seem to be, well, toys – – with a lot of serious deficiencies. Thanks
